GLOBAL CITIZEN FESTIVAL: MANDELA 100 The Global Citizen Festival is an annual music festival that was started in 2012 and organized by the Global Poverty Project. The Festival is part of a movement to end extreme poverty by 2030 in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The festival takes place in Central Park, New York every year and is curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay. Outside of New York the festival has been hosted in countries including Canada, England, Germany and India. On the 2nd of December, 2018 the festival was hosted in Africa for the first time in Johannesburg, South Africa and included a stellar line up of artists, entertainers, public figures, dignitaries and world leaders. Some of the headlining acts and speakers included Pharrell Williams, Naomi Campbell, President Cyril Ramaphosa, Oprah Winfrey, Trevor Noah as well as Jay-Z and Beyoncé. We’re truly honored to have been a part of such a monumental event for Africa and enjoyed every minute working on this campaign. Our role involved working with the corporate partnerships team and marketing team to assist in executing live photography for the social media strategy for all corporate sponsors as well as covering the entire run of show for corporate partners across social media. Our key deliverables throughout the campaign included creating branded content, capturing stage moments, writing copy for social media and emailers as well as coordinating the photography of key stage stage moments, and delivering partner content across various social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram). Global Citizen’s corporate partnerships for the Mandela 100 campaign included HP, Uber, Coca-Cola Africa, Nandos, The Motsepe Foundation, Tsogo Sun, Vodacom, Nedbank, and many more.
Global Citizen is a movement of engaged citizens who are using their collective voice to end extreme poverty by 2030. On its platform, users learn about the systemic causes of extreme poverty, take action on those issues, and earn rewards for their actions — as part of a global community committed to lasting change. In 2018 they ran their first major campaign in South Africa to honor Nelson Mandela's legacy in the year of his centenary and put together a star studded lineup of performing artists, public figures and dignitary speakers including the likes of Beyonce´, Pharrell Williams, Trevor Noah, Dr. Jim Kim, President Ramaphosa and many others. NKDIGITAL was honoured to be subcontracted as the digital media producer alongside MMMC for corporate partnerships, who executed the entire social media strategy for corporate partners which included The Motsepe Foundation, HP, Vodacom, Coca-Cola Africa, Tsogo Sun, Nedbank, Uber and others. Having produced the content, the key deliverables for the campaign included; writing and scheduling posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Email. Editing partner editorial content pieces for tone, voice, and regional variations. Coordinating and organizing visual and multimedia assets for posting and archiving. Monitoring and executing the “social media run of show” during the day of the festival and post campaign reporting. Other significant accomplishments included hosting screenings of Global Citizen's 'Louder Together' documentary for partners, supporting offline actions and covering them on social media as well as working with Global Citizen's advocates (celebrity ambassadors) to support partner activations and events.
